Estimating mixtures of densities. (1997)

0 is a bad place to be--Gradient and higher order derivatives of the quadratic cost function in 0. (1997)

Shows that when all weights (except possibly biases) are 0, the cost function has a weird behaviour, with many higher order derivatives being 0.
A more detailed version appears in Neural Processing Letters.

Lag space estimation in time series modelling. (1996)

This the base for a discussion on lag-space estimation with the learning group. See paper above.

Some computational aspects of neural network training. (1996)

It discusses the computational complexity of learning methods based on cross-validation and algebraic estimators, and shows that the latter is generally an order N faster (when using a Hessian approximation) than the former. This has been included in section 3.12 of my thesis.
